With a base of over 63 million* units in India, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) not only play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country, but also provide immense employment opportunities in Tier-II and Tier-III cities of India. Employing over 107 million* of India’s workforce, small and medium enterprises are not-so-small after all.

Talking of SMEs, our ever-evolving startup ecosystem deserves a special mention. Tech-driven, externally funded and focused on fast growth, startups are distinctive from traditional SMEs in more ways than one. Despite the differences, SMEs and startups have one common ground; both know that an organisation can run successfully only when its employees are happy and motivated.

In order to understand the current practices in employee tax benefits in India, Zeta commissioned Nielsen India to carry out the Zeta Employee Benefits Study, a first-of-its-kind survey on this subject. This study for SMEs is part of that broader and elaborate survey on tax-saving reimbursements that includes findings from large and mid-sized companies as well.

This report meant for SMEs provides helpful insights, particularly to HR managers, who are interested in leading an organisation’s HR policies that apply to employee relations, hiring, compensation, benefits and performance among some others. Through the findings of this survey, HR professionals can evaluate their tax-saving reimbursements programme and use the inferences as an aid to make strategic decisions or changes if required.
